Charles Neal is a very charming fellow who has made quite a name for himself as an importer of great French wines and spirits, and has also cultivated a small but highly regarded grower Champagne portfolio. He began his career by importing Armagnac, and eventually became an expert on the subject, writing a book about it, as well as a book on Calvados. For over twenty years Charles has navigated the back roads of France, tirelessly attempting to find wine growers from areas often overlooked by other importers. Expanding from Southwest France, he works with producers from the major wine growing regions as well as those from lesser-known appellations like Jura and IIrouléguy in the Basque region. His philosophy remains simple: find high quality wines from small growers that exemplify grape varietal typicity and the terroir from which they come—while getting them to a customer at a fair price.
