Local Event
We will have an educational wine tasting on The Hills patio on Monday, May 13, at 6 PM. There will be warm bread for palate cleansing, and you can buy additional food or dinner inside the store at 5:45 before the actual tasting begins at 6. You will taste 6 wines for $12.71, which is the exact cost of the wine, bread, Hills’ fee, etc.
Direct comparison of different Malbecs. At this tasting, we will learn the different forms of Malbec, and we will each find out what style we like best by direct comparison, by comparing four different styles of Malbec. It really takes a direct comparison of similar wines for each of us to learn what we like the best. It is hard to compare a wine you are tasting this week with one you tasted several weeks ago. You may remember that you liked both of them, but which one do you prefer. It takes a direct comparison tasting to learn that.
Today 75% of the world's Malbec is made in Argentina, and they produce several different styles of that varietal. But the actual home of Malbec is Cahors (“ca-or”, no “h”, no “s”), France, where it has grown for centuries.
Learn about other Argentine wines. Argentina is known for Malbec, plus white Torrontes and red Bonarda, which we will discover by sampling at this tasting.
Educational: Everyone receives an educational packet of information, including detailed descriptions of the 6 wines, Information on Argentine wines in general, plus several informational printouts from the Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS): CMS Tasting Grid, CMS list of suggested wine temperatures for serving, CMS Color Scale for Wine, and the CMS Deductive Tasting Language Chart.
Wines in this tasting: Jan Wilson of The Hills curated the selection for this tasting, but she will not be presenting the wine. This is a “Let’s Discover Wine” tasting - not a Hills’ event. Contact for any questions: letsdiscoverwine@gmail.com.
Refunds (less eventbrite's fee) will only be made if a cancelled reservation is resold.
