Join food writer and chef-instructor Shawnie Kelley on the birthday of Julia Child as she shares four elegant recipes that will transport you to the City of Light. The main entrée is classic, lemony sole meunière, the popular fish dish that stole Julia’s heart. It may have a fancy name, but the preparation is quick and approachable, as you will learn the technique for pan searing and butter basting fish. Also sure to impress are pommes duchesse, mashed potatoes piped into fancy swirls and baked until golden. A side of glazed vegetables lends color and texture to the plate. For dessert, you will make another of Julia’s favorites, the individual chocolate almond cake, a riff on Queen of Sheba cake. Shawnie draws on her years of working and living in France to put together this cohesive meal that’s sure to give your friends and family the “ooh la las.” A glass of wine is included with the meal.
