Often hailed as one of Italy’s finest wines, Amarone della Valpolicella, also known as Amarone, is a dry red wine from the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. The wine is produced using a complex winemaking technique called appassimento, which involves selecting the ripest grapes during harvest and leaving them to dry in special temperature-controlled rooms for several weeks. The resulting “raisins” are then pressed and fermented to dryness, resulting in a luxurious, full-bodied, and fruit-forward wine. Amarone is known to age as well as Bordeaux and Vintage Port.
