Do you love Cornas? Do you love August Clape? Then this is the event for you.
Derek K. Nielsen, world renown artist, has an impressive collection of rare wine from which he chooses select bottles to create unique works of art. He paints with fine wine.
He has decided to open up his small studio to a one-night event where he will share his love of Cornas, which is a very small area in Northern Rhone famous for fantastic Syrah expressions. He is opening up several bottles of Clape, Paris and Voge plus a rare surprise from 1990. 4 participants will get to witness the creation of a painting live and in person where Nielsen will utilize the wine to paint it.
"I absolutely love Cornas for its ancient terroir steeped in interesting history, it beautiful, steep slopes that are incredibly difficult to manage, its producer’s authenticity of the old school craft, especially Clape where most modern methods are shunned to let the godly drink really shine. Olivier Clape says that the quality of 2015 was on par with 1990, but that as of yet is too soon to really declare where it will sit. I will open 3 examples of their 2015 production plus two contrasting years of '12 and '11 to compare the differences, then move on to ancient vines of Voge from vintner Mazoyer, and then to one of my all-time favorite wine makers Vincent Paris. The surprise 1990 is really rare and a kind of bonus for this one-off event to cap its special nature." - Derek K. Nielsen
Only 4 tickets will be sold, as his studio is small.
Patrons must be able to climb a 12' ladder secured into stairs with handrails to his loft studio where the painting will take place.
