About Paola Tealdi:
Paola was born and raised in Turin, located within the worldrenowned wine region of Piedmont, Italy. Paola initially began her career in the fashion business, but became so influenced by Piedmont’s wine culture that she soon switched industries to focus on her passion. In 1990, Paola joined Col d’Orcia as the Assistant to the Managing Director. Soon thereafter, she was promoted to Export Manager with responsibilities including the marketing and distribution of Col d’Orcia wines worldwide. Today, Col d’Orcia exports to more than 70 countries in 5 continents. Paola lives in Turin with her husband and son. She loves reading, skiing, and whenever possible, spending time with her family.
About Col d'Orcia:
As one of the original estates of Montalcino and now the largest certified organic estate in Tuscany, Col d’Orcia is a leader in Brunello di Montalcino helping to define and promote one of Italy’s most prestigious wines. Tradition and integrity are the pillars of Col d’Orcia, whose classic style wines are marked by balance and elegance. The estate is located on the southern facing slope at about 1500 feet above sea level. Its positioning is particularly favorable and is protected by the barrier of Mount Amiata (5,700 feet) which shield the estate from the elements such as floods or hail. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with limited rainfalls coming in from the Tyrrhenian coast, where the sea is 21 miles away. Therefore, the growing area is usually not affected by fog, ice or late frost, and the consistent breezes (due to altitude) guarantee the best conditions for grape development. The soil is loose, poor in clay, and rich in limestone and other minerals. Sunny days throughout the growing season ensure a gradual and complete grape ripening.
About Brunello di montalcino:
First record of a wine called Brunello was recorded in the 14th century by Duca Leopoldo. In the mid 1800’s, certain clones of Sangiovese were selected and isolated to produce a 100% varietal wine in Montalcino. In 1888, the first Brunello di Montalcino was produced by Ferruccio Biondi Santi. Only 11 producers were making Brunello in 1968. When the CdO estate was purchased, there were 23 producers. In 1980, it was the first wine in Italy to be awarded the DOCG appellation. Today there are over 204 producers. Total Brunello production is 330,000 cases.
