You’re invited to take a gastronomical journey through the rich French culture that has shaped one of the most historically significant towns in Texas. On Tuesday, September 10, at 6 p.m., Hillside Boutique Hotel will host Vintage Castroville, a celebration of Alsatian wine, culture, and cuisine in honor of Castroville’s 175th birthday.
The evening will begin with a dinner prepared by Hillside Texas Bistro Chef David Hill using locally sourced ingredients and featuring foods that nod to the city’s Alsatian Heritage. Wines will be selected and paired by wine expert Mathieu Muckensturm, a native of Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, which is one of the top wine regions in France. Located on the border of Germany and France, Alsace boasts near-perfect conditions for wine growing with ancient soils, noble grapes, and with one of the driest climates in France.
Guests can gather in the rustic Barrel Room for a pre-dinner drink to take in the historic photos of Castroville lining the walls. During dinner, Chef Hill, along with Muckensturm will walk guests through a culinary adventure, sharing their expertise on the food and wine of Alsace. As an added treat, Hillside Boutique Hotel owner Jana Winkler, member of the Alsatian Pioneers Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, will share highlights and anecdotes from Castroville’s history.
