Paul Jaboulet Aine Rhone Tasting

featuring

Adrien Laurent, Directeur des Operations – Paul Jaboulet Aine

Sigel’s-Greenville (5757 Greenville Ave)   June 11th 5-7pm

“One of the benchmark estates, not only in the Northern Rhone, but also in the world, is the estate of Paul Jaboulet Aîné. Founded in 1834 by Antoine Jaboulet, it was passed down to his sons Paul and Henri. Louis Jaboulet, with his son Jacques, managed the estate up through 1977 and were responsible for such all-time greats as the 1949, 1959 and 1961. After Louis retired in 1977, the helm fell to Jacques and his brother Gérard. Starting a new chapter for the domaine, in January of 2006, Jean-Jacques Frey, whose family are investors in the Champagne house of Billecart-Salmon and own the Bordeaux estate La Lagune, purchased the estate. His daughter, Caroline Frey, who was the winemaker at Château La Lagune since 2004, quickly took over the running of the estate and wasted no time implementing her vision, and if recent vintages are any indication, this estate is well on its way toward making future legends such as the '61, '78 and '90.” Robert Parker

Join us on June 11th at Sigel’s-Greenville from 5-7pm as we welcome Adrien Laurent, Director of Operations for Paul Jaboulet Aine, as he leads us through a tasting of the new releases that will be arriving in Dallas in July. Taking over from the Jaboulet family with the 2006 vintage, the Frey family (of Champagne and Bordeaux) has reinvoforated this iconic estate with such classic techniques as lowering yields and pushing back harvest dates, along with new ideas including utilizing second use barrels from Ch Latour and employing famed Bordeaux eonologist Denis Debourdieu.  For more information about this free tasting please contact david waddington at 214/739-4012 or store01wine@sigels.com.

Paul Jabouet Aine Wines to be Tasted :

Le Chevalier de Sterimberg 2017

70% Marsanne, 30% Roussanne, 35 year old vines. Aged in both concrete eggs and French oak barrels (15% new).

“Jaboulet's 2017 Hermitage Blanc Le Chevalier de Sterimberg is approximately two-thirds Marsanne and one-third Roussanne. Subtle notes of crushed stone and pencil shavings frame honey, pineapple and baking spices, all wrapped around a tensile core of tangerine and lime. In a year when no La Chapelle Blanc is being made, this is the top white Hermitage from Jaboulet, and it's a beauty, with a silky texture and a long, mouthwatering finish.” 94-97rp

Vacqueyras les Cyprès 2016

75% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, vines aged 35 years.

“The 2016 Vacqueyras les Cypres spent a year in oak, leaving it with some leather and spice notes, hints of asphalt, black olives and cherry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's a bit more structured than most from this vintage, yet ripe, offering decent weight, supple tannins, and a nice balance between richness and freshness.” 90rp

Gigondas Pierre-Aiguille 2017

80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 40 year old vines.

Powerful, aromatic nose of blueberry and blackberry, layered with spice and toasted notes. Rich and ripe with fine, polished tannins, fresh acidity and a wonderful sophistication.

Saint-Joseph le Grand Pompée 2016

100% Syrah, 10-30 year old vines.

Beautiful dark and purple color. The aromatic nose reveals notes of cherries, blackcurrants and white pepper. The mouth is full and smooth with lots of cherry and licorice flavors. The finish is balanced with beautiful long lasting aromas of spices.

Cornas les Grandes Terrasses 2015

100% Syrah, 20-60 year old vines. Aged 12 months in French oak, 20% new.

”Fresh and very lively in feel, with nicely embedded acidity driving the delicious plum, cassis and blackberry fruit flavors along, Lots of bright bay leaf, savory and iron notes stream through the finish. Shows solid cut and drive. Best from 2019 through 2030. 400 cases made, 100 cases imported.” 93ws

Croze Hermitage Domaine de Roure 2016

100% Syrah, 40-60 year old vines. Aged 12 months in French oak, 20% new.

“A mini Hermitage from granite slopes in the commune of Gervans, the 2016 Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Roure is outstanding. Deep plum and black olive notes mark the nose, while the full-bodied palate is supple, velvety and rich. This beauty shows wonderful harmony and savoriness, turning silky on the long finish.” 94rp

Hermitage La Chapelle 2006

100% Syrah, from 40-60 year old goblet prunes vines in Bessards, Meal and Rocoules’ yielding 10-18 hl/ha.

“Glass staining ruby color. Powerful scents of red and dark berry preserves, smoked meat, violets and minerals offer impressive clarity and expand in the glass. Velvety in texture, with deep, liqueur like red berry flavo5rs, gentle tannins and a strong undercurrent of lively minerals. The smoky not repeats strongly on the lush, seductively sweet finish. Extremely appealing even now, but this really deserve a chance to sleep for at least a decade.” 93ag
