Syrah and Shiraz are two names for the same grape, however the varietal crafts two distinctly different styles. Join us for this Penfolds Shiraz vs. Rhone Syrah Seminar to determine which style you prefer. During this class we will discuss one of the world’s principal grape varietals and compare wines crafts in the Northern Rhône Valley, the grape’s native home, to Shiraz from Australia. We will taste from different appellations in the Rhone Valley, including Hermitage. It was Shiraz that put Australia on the world map of quality wine producing countries, and in large thanks to Penfolds, an iconic winery dating back to the 19th century.
We will taste the following wines:
Delas Crozes-Hermitage 2016
Pendolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz 2016 (South Australia)
Jean-Louis Chave Selection Saint Joseph Offerous 2016
Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz (Coonawarra)
M. Chapoutier Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne 2012
Penfolds RWT Shiraz (Barossa Valley)
The class will be led by Celeste Bailey, WSET Level 3, Master of Rioja DOCa, Level 1 Court of Master Sommelier.
