The Modernism Museum Mount Dora presents its next Dine & Learn, titled Rebel London: Radical Minds featuring Dr. Louise Kane on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019 at 12:30 PM (luncheon) and 6:30 PM (dinner). The event will take place at the Modernism Museum’s award-winning restaurant, 1921 Mount Dora. The cost is $35 for a three-course, prix-fixe luncheon (12:30 PM) or dinner (6:30 PM) menu.
Join the Modernism Museum and Dr. Kane as we explore the radical figures and art movements that made 20th-century London a cultural and artistic hotbed. We will trace the evolution of London’s Modernist art scene, covering topics such as Wyndham Lewis’ Vorticism movement, the Futurism movement that came into London via Italy, and the music scene that developed as jazz filtered into London from Harlem, New York. It was this rebellious artistic environment that allowed a new generation of artists to emerge by the 1960s, including figures like David Bowie.
Born and raised in London, Dr. Louise Kane is currently the Assistant Professor of Global Modernisms at the University of Central Florida. Dr. Kane earned her BA in English Language and Literature from Oxford University and her PhD from De Montfort University. Her research is centered around literary Modernism and she has published widely on the subject of early avant-garde literary magazines and artistic movements, such as Dada and Surrealism.
Please call the Modernism Museum at (352) 385-0034 to reserve your spot. Limited seating is available.
