Need something different to motivate your Great Backyard Bird Count? Join CKAS for a daylight Owl Prowl at Talon Winery.
Owls in the daytime? That's crazy!
Not as crazy as you might think. Not all owls only hunt at night. Short-eared Owls, seasonal migrants to central Kentucky that are only here for the winter, are known to be crepuscular (hunting during twilight) and occasionally diurnal (hunting during the day).
We will meet at the Talon Tasting Room at 3:30pm, sample some wines, and take turns watching and waiting for the appearance of Short-Eared Owls over Talon's fields. We don't expect the owls until more like 5:00+, but Talon closes at 6:00pm on Sundays so we figured we'd get there early to taste their wares and enjoy some conversation. Bring your cameras since with luck we'll have owls and enough light to get pictures.
Keep in mind that the Tasting Room is set up to handle smaller groups and please be patient with staff.
