People of color have played crucial roles in the history of spirits and cocktails, but too often their contributions have been forgotten, ignored, or deliberately suppressed. In honor of Black History Month we’ll be exploring their contributions, from the early days of the slave trade to Tom Bullock’s 1917 cocktail manual all the way to the modern day, when Black Americans are making waves in the craft cocktail industry. Our guest speaker will be Detroit bartender Amas Muhammad, who’ll speak from both his research and personal experience.

Your booking includes light snacks (pretzels, nuts). The Last Word is closed during the class, so no food service is available. The class includes a combination of history and stories, technique instruction, and hands-on making of cocktails. Plus sampling, of course! Total consumption is equivalent to 1.5-2 cocktails per person over the two hour class.
