Malbec from Argentina burst onto the scene about ten years ago, and is loved by many, and for good reason, yet once you try Carmenere from Chile, you may rethink the next time you reach for a Malbec (we'll taste both). And when it comes to Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa and Bordeaux won't be alone in your mind once you've tasted what South Africa does with the grape. And if you like Sancerre, or any clean, crisp, lively white wines, then South Africa's Chenin Blancs will take you by storm.
As for Australia and New Zealand, sure to be tasted are some exciting Shiraz from South Australia and the lively Sauvignon Blancs of New Zealand, yet these staples aren't the last word from these two wine producing juggernauts. Like South Africa, Australia also turns out beautiful Cabernet Sauvignons, some ripe and full-bodied, others more classic and firm, like good Bordeaux. The Kiwis, on the other hand, have been getting better and better at crafting rich, yet food-friendly Pinot Noirs from Central Otago (south island) and elsewhere.
These wines and many more will be sampled. If none of these are familiar to you, even better.
