It is that time in November when you crank up the oven and invite some folks over for a big bird (or some alternative) to celebrate surviving the summer. You know, THANKSGIVING! This weekend we are tasting some wines that should match up the feast. Come see what we got open.
2017 Ca dei Frati Lugana I Frati $19
Trebbiano
A complex, lees aged Trebbiano from older vines. The I Frati has a concentrated but fresh perfume of white flowers, peaches and ripe lemons. On the palate it has excellent depth and balance, richness and a lovely crisp, lively finish.
2016 Saget la Perriere Blois, Marie de Beauregard Vouvray $17
100% Chenin Blanc
Marie de Beauregard Vouvray comes from an estate located in the village of “La Roche Corbon” near the city of Vouvray. On the nose, it has a mineral expression of chalk and flint followed by a burst of ripe pear, acacia honey, candied fruits and lemon. The palate has a beautiful balance of freshness and sweetness with a silky texture.
2018 Garzon Pinot Noir Rosé $15
From Uruguay, this Pinot Rosé is bright and fresh with notes of red cherry, flowers, and spices that introduce an elegant wine, pleasant and refreshing with a long nose and good acidity. And yes it is 2018!
2017 Domaine du Prieurè Hautes Cotes du Beaune $19
Pinot Noir
The vineyards for Prieuré’s Hautes Cotes are located on the east facing wooded slopes above the villages of Pommard, Volnay and Meursault, with iron rich soils, which gives them some of the character and elegance of the grander village wines grown on the slopes below. It is aged for a shorter time in barrel, making it more approachable when young. The wine has fresh red fruit aromas, and a firm flavor, accentuated by good acidity and very present tannins. That makes it a great value Pinot.
2012 Sella & Mosca, Terre Rare Reserva $17
Carignano del Sulcis
From a Sardinian DOC, this Carignano del Sulcis is all about red fruit flavors. The wine has aromas of ripe raspberries accompanied by spicy notes and floral scents with a touch of vanilla. The taste is rich and concentrated with firm, round tannins and flavors of cherry and red fruit.
