Melissa and Ken's Biographical Information;
Melissa Moholt-Siebert (Owner) was born in Montana, and grew up in Portland, Oregon. Her first passion and career, beginning as an intern when she was 16, was cellular neuroscience research. She attended Pomona College in southern California, where she met her husband Ken, and graduated with a degree in Biology. After graduate studies and many years in research laboratories, a different life called to Melissa – one more connected to the products of the earth, namely wine. Melissa now applies her analytic and organizational acumen and perseverance from decades in cell culture laboratories to Ancient Oak Cellars.

Ken Moholt-Siebert (Owner), a native of Berkeley, California, prepared for his farm career by studying Classics at UC Berkeley and then Pomona College, then receiving a Masters in Architecture from the University of Oregon. Ken was very close to his grandparents when growing up and spent summers and holidays working the ranch with his grandfather, Henry. Working the farm — from a time before it was planted anew with grapes — Ken developed an abiding love for it, which was why, after two decades as an architect, Ken chose to carry forward another generation in farming. With the Pinot Noir from the home ranch receiving critical success in single-vineyard bottlings by other wineries, Ken and Melissa saw the opportunity to create their own label and a sustainable family business: Ancient Oak Cellars.
Ken manages Ancient Oak Cellars’ own vineyards and relations with our grape growers.

Winery Information;
We are a family winery in Santa Rosa, California.  We grow grapes on three estate vineyards here in Sonoma County: Pinot Noir on our home vineyard, Siebert Ranch, in the Russian River Valley, Zinfandel on the Pagnano Vineyard, in the Russian River Valley, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc on the Berger Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain.  We also make Russian River Valley Chardonnay, with several single-vineyard offerings.

Winemaking Team Information;
Ancient Oak’s celebrated winemaker, Greg La Follette, brings extensive experience and a hands-on approach to our wines, starting in the vineyard, where he walks the vine rows and works with Ken and crew to do as much winemaking in the vineyard as possible.  His hands-on approach continues through punch-downs, barrel tasting, and sharing his quirky, upbeat personality with all involved.  You will often hear Greg say, “I’m the luckiest man alive.”  This has much to do with his amazing wife and partner Mara.  We are blessed to have both Greg and Mara join us;  this expands our family in a quite amazing way.
