Discover your pleasure – whether it’s Chablis to sip now, or Chablis to cellar – at our

Chablis tasting event on Thursday, October 18th, 6:30-8:00 PM, led by our special guest

                                Gwenael Laroche of Domaine d’Henri.

We’ll be tasting the six Chablis – including village, premier cru and grand cru. Four wines from Domaine d’Henri, as well as Chablis from Domaine Denis Race and Domaine Louis Moreau. There is limited availability on the Domaine d’Henri wines, which is why we’ve rounded out the tasting with a couple of other growers. So – not only do we have delicious – we have diversity.

A Little Background on Domaine d'Henri

The story of Domaine d’Henri begins well before the domaine was established in 2012. It traces its ancestry back to the 1800s when Jean Victor Laroche purchased his first parcels in Chablis – and continues through the years with Domaine Laroche – that Michel Laroche managed for some fifty years – until he sold it.

Selling the domaine was a lifestyle decision, as was establishing Domaine d’Henri. Domaine Laroche had grown to be large, successful and demanding of his time. Domaine d’Henri was a family affair, with time for family.

Domaine d’Henri, managed by Michel Laroche and his children, is named after Michel’s father. It began with just under 5 acres, planted by Michel’s grandfather and has since grown to 40 acres, with 8 in Petit Chablis, 21 in Chablis and 11 in 1er Cru Fourchaume. As you might have caught in the tasting lineup, he also has a parcel of the L’Homme Mort in Fourchaume – so you’ll get to do a comparison. Bonus!

The vineyards are farmed sustainably. Since 2012, massale selection from the oldest vines, dating from 1937, is used for all new plantings. Natural techniques are adapted to each terroir to regulate the impact of climatic incidents while preserving the ecosystem and allowing root systems to penetrate as deeply as possible. Meticulous pruning and leaf removal insures that yields are limited.

Parcels are vinified separately after a gentle pressing using indigenous yeasts. Oak is introduced judiciously in the elevage. A total of 10% – 35% of the overall production is aged in barrels, a portion of which are replaced each year, and the balance in stainless steel. Cold stabilization and aggressive filtering are avoided. The wines are clean, fresh and mineral driven with fine aromatics, complexity and texture.

If you want to know more, please join us.

There will be lots more to talk about, but even more exciting is the opportunity to taste!
