Local Event
Cost: $80
Each year SAWS arranges a dinner that allows its members to appreciate some of the finer points of the cuisine of our fellow Canadians. Toronto has a rich heritage. Its range of cultures and people provide a colourful quilt of neighbourhoods, often overlooked as we rush along. This event will be similar to some of our past initiatives and is intended to be dinner with a selection of wines and will provide the opportunity to interact with our friends before and during the meal.
Imagine. You have just been invited to a Hungarian friend’s house. It’s a celebration. Perhaps a birthday or christening. Almost everybody will be Hungarian, but not you. There will be lots of food and perhaps some wine too. Edit and Lorie will be working their magic in the kitchen for the 30 party guests. The place will be crowded but everyone is expected to have a great time as the platters and wine are passed along the table.
After some shared appetizers to get the party started, the goulash soup will warm us up. Then come mixed platters of Wiener schnitzel, Parisian schnitzel, pork chops, Debreceni sausages, cabbage rolls, home fries, rice or dumplings, beet salad and coleslaw. After that, there will be palacinka (crpe) stuffed with walnuts. Yes, the food will be enhanced by Jon Whitteker’s selection of a range of South African wines from the cellar.
Are we happy? Darned right! It’s not a dream. Wake up. Registration is limited to 30 guests.
