Casa Santos Lima, Rebelde
Great Value from Portugal
Wed March 14, 5-7pm, sale all day
Some people think that any wine under ten dollars can’t be good. That may be true for some areas (e.g. a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon), but places less known, such as Portugal, have some super value wines. The Casa Santo Lima is one such wines. As many of you know, Ray doesn’t allow distributors to tell him the price until after he’s evaluated the wine. Being pleasantly surprised at a low price is a minimum requirement for a wine to come into the store. Well, after tasting this wine, the reaction was more like “stunned”. Even though Portuguese wines have a reputation as relatively inexpensive, this one exceeds expectations.
The wine itself is a blend of somewhat unfamiliar grapes (e.g. Touriga Nacional, which is one of the prime grapes in Port) with more familiar grapes (e.g. Syrah). It’s a full and fruit-forward wine, and sees some aging in oak (another surprise for an inexpensive wine). Come and taste, or just order. It can be a “house” wine, so buy a case for 25% off.
Casa Santos Lima, Rebelde, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Alicante Bouschet, Bold Red, Lisboa, Portugal, Deeply colored with pleasant aromas in the nose showing ripe, red fruit and floral notes. A vibrant and fruity wine with elegant notes of wood, fine structure and a balanced, pleasurable finish
