This is a "slow travel" tour which means we stay in one place for the week together and live like the Italians, taking our time to enjoy everything we do, see, taste and experience. NO single supplement; each guest traveling on their own is entitled to their own room. (Airfare, mandatory travel insurance, Covid tests and personal shopping not included).
Arrival day you will be met at the Orvieto train station and once settled in your room we will meet for an apertivo and short orientation before dinner. Each morning before breakfast, an optional yoga class will be offered, then breakfast before heading out for the first excursion on of the day. When commerce closes at 1 pm we will settle in for our lunch. After lunch and a rest there will be another opportunity for an excursion before meeting up for dinner. (see our sample itinerary below)
Day 1 - We will stay in the hill town of Orvieto visiting the underground city, the 600 year well built by Pope Clement, the stunning cathedral and its magnificent fresci and the best Etruscan museum in the area. We will lunch in Orvieto but leave town for dinner.
Day 2 - A visit to Civita d' Bagnoregio (the dying city) and Lake Bolsena, where we will lunch on the water with fresh lake food and stop at the Etruscan/Roman archeological site. Dinner in town after a stroll around the shopping district.
Day 3 - Wine tasting in Montefalco and a picnic lunch. You will be amazed at the wonderful Sagrantino varietal found exclusively in that area. A stop in the hill town of Todi on the way home. Dinner, family style with Giampiero at Locanda Rosati.
Day 4 - Free morning before our wine tasting lunch at Palazzano just outside of Orvieto. An excursion later to taste olive oil at the small factory where they do the pressing. Dinner in town at one of our favorite trattoria's.
Day 5 - A trip to Sorano, Sovana and Pitligliano, west of Orvieto on the Tuscan border. Small, villages with charm and some artisan shopping opportunities. Lunch before heading home late afternoon. Free evening or join us for dinner in town.
Day 6 - Cooking class at Locanda Rosati where we will end the class with lunch. Then a visit to the local goat cheese farm before a short walk on the Apian Way. An afternoon rest before dinner, then we will meet at our favorite bistro for wine and tastes. You'll want to have a walk around town after dark as it's as charming at night as it is in daylight.
Day 7 - Our last day will include a surprise excursion and a wine tasting, lunch and a farewell dinner. You will be escorted to the train or other transport the next day to either carry on with your travel or head home. Buon viaggio! Arrivederci
P.S. We are happy to help you make plans for an extension of your trip, either before or after our tour. We have many resources throughout Italy.
