Eric Orange will host the first of a series of Virtual Culinary & Wine Tasting Adventures highlighting the Women Champions of Food and Wine.


We are city centric, meaning to have both the Champions and guests all from the same city. Our first stop is the vibrant international Pacific Northwest city of Seattle!

The wines we will taste are from a local Award Winning female winemaker, Lisa Callan, winemaker and owner of Callan Cellars. Seattle Sommelier Stephanie Schrankel of Seastar Restaurant will speak on the unique terroirs and status of Washington State as the #2 producer of the finest wines in the USA, Chef Angela Bethea, of Grand Hyatt will showcase a Pacific Northwest dish and share her interpretation of this fusion recipe.


Lisa Callan, owner of Callan Cellars & Award Winning Winemaker

Lisa Callan is the winemaker & owner of Callan Cellars. Lisa is a proven talent amongst the giants of Washington wineries by creating wines of distinction and style. Her wines are receiving national acclaim from Wine Enthusiast & Wine Press for her creative Rhone style whites, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul, with her Bordeaux style red wines consistently winning double gold awards from Seattle wine awards all within 3 short years!

Lisa is a graduate Washington State University’s enology program and was assistant winemaker for Red Sky Winery under the tutelage of iconic winemaker Carol Parsons for several years. Lisa wanted to create her vision of 100% terroir driven wines and in the summer of 2015, Callan Cellars opened. Lisa produces luscious Bordeaux varietal red wines from select Columbia Valley AVA with the mouthwatering Rhone whites being sourced from Yakima Valley AVA, joining the tier is a delectable Méthode Champenoise Sparkling and a savory Rhone Rose.

2019 Grenache Blanc - $25

  • 100% Grenache Blanc from Boushey Vineyards
  • Stainless steel fermentation to dryness
  • 12.3% alc.
  • 191 cases produced

Made in a fresh light style, this shows intriguing aromas of Bosc pear, Crenshaw melon, kiwi and citrus with scents of honeysuckle. The flavors are bright with a crisp & racy finish.

 

2017 Founders Reserve - $42

  • 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 13% Cab Franc and 11% Malbec
  • Dineen, Elephant Mountain and Boushey Vineyards
  • 14.7% alc
  • 75 cases produced

One of our flagship wines, originally intended for our Founder’s exclusively. Aged for 22 mos. in French and American oak providing added complexity. Flavors of dark fruits, cherry, blueberry, leather and earth.


Sommelier, Stephanie Schrankel of SeaStar Restaurant

Stephanie Schrankel holds a Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers a Certified Specialist of Wine with Society of Wine Educators, and holds the Level 2 certification from the Wine & Spirits Educational Trust. She is the lead sommelier at the Wine Spectator-Awarded Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar in Bellevue, WA.

Stephanie teaches at Northwest Wine Academy, and leads wine tours through Woodinville wine country.


Angela Rose Bethea, Chef at Grand Hyatt Seattle

Angela’s childhood love for cooking blossomed into a lifelong passion and from her unique background and thorough training from Seattle Culinary Academy she has made her mark on Seattle’s culinary scene. Angela is known for her artistic flair in creating fusion dishes. Her passion for sustainability has connected her with the Quillisascut Chef’s of Color team in spreading awareness in the inner city community on the importance of farm to table in our homes as well as restaurants. Angela’s fine dining background has lead her career into blossoming a new path into The Rose Experience, upscale dining from pick up and go packages to small celebrations. She will continue to spread her talents with the Seattle Hyatt Collection as well as personal, intimate events with The Rose Experience that will launch going into the 2020 Holiday Season. 


Angela will prepare a Seattle inspired dish that is perfect leading into our fall/winter months that any home cook can make and will definitely WOW your guests:
