Although advances in technology and winemaking expertise can now smooth out differences between vintages, fortune still provides rare growing seasons spectacular enough to remind us that nature trumps trickery. 2016 is just such a year, and it seems especially fortunate in retrospect, as it bestowed its most abundant blessings on the prime growing regions of Piedmont and Tuscany: Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello di Montalcino and the Classico district of Chianti. This tasting will offer a last chance to take stock of the vintage before many of the wines become unavailable. As we’ll experience, they provide uncanny combinations of power with poise, complexity with coherence, and age-worthiness with accessibility. We’ll taste a dozen cases in point that prove the ancient Roman goddess Fortuna hasn’t lost her touch.
Wine samples available for pickup by appointment on Friday, January 21 between 12pm – 5pm.
