Encouraging quality and innovation, Elena Walch stood at the head of the Alto Adige quality revolution and has gained local and international esteem for her efforts. An architect by trade, Elena Walch married into one of the oldest and most significant wine families of the region and brought new, modern concepts to the traditional establishment. Now, the responsibility for the family business is being put into the hands of the daughters, Julia and Karoline Walch, already the fifth generation.
The philosophy of the estate is dedicated to its terroir – the idea that wines must be the individual expression of their soil, climate and cultivation in the vineyard – and that this must be maintained according to principles of sustainability and passed on to the next generation. The firm belief that the quality of wine is created in the vineyard requires uncompromising work, taking into account the individuality of each vineyard.
Elena Walch, Selezione Südtirol Alto Adige Pinot Grigio, ’19
This Pinot Grigio appears in the glass in an elegant straw yellow and captivates with its fruity notes of ripe pears. The fruit bouquet of this wine is accompanied by white pepper, fresh hay blossoms and a hint of sage.
Elena Walch, Vigneti delle Dolomiti Rosé 20/26, ’20
The new vintage is a blend of Lagrein, Merlot and Pinot Nero. Introduces itself in a gorgeous soft pink, with a fruity bouquet of red berries and cherries with a little pepper in the background. On the palate, the blend renders this wine stimulating and fresh, with elegant drinkability and a fresh, youthful finish. I got to taste this last week and IT’S ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!
Elena Walch, Südtirol Alto Adige Schiava ’19
Bright ruby in color with a delicate hint of cherry on the nose. On the palate, it is harmonious and elegant due to naturally mild acidity and tannin with a pleasant bitter almond flavor on the finish. An elegant and light-bodied red with good lengths–great with a 15 minute chill on a warm day!
