The aim of the course is to focus on the key grape varieties and regions of the world. While the course provides an overview of the wines of the world, including main wine grapes and regions, it also covers factors affecting wine quality and style, grape growing, and basic winemaking practices. The course emphasizes tasting assessment and the skills required to describe the aromas and tastes of wine. It helps to develop fundamental tasting and assessment skills.

Students will taste 8-9 wines during each class session.

The exam takes 1 hour and consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Those who pass the exam receive the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, an internationally recognized credential in the wine industry.

17 Guided Learning Hours (including one hour for the examination) and 11 hours’ private study.

Study Materials

Study materials will be mailed to students via USPS Priority Mail approximately 3 weeks before the first class. Due to the condensed nature of our intensive courses, it is recommended that students register early enough to receive their textbook in the initial mailing approximately 3 weeks before the intensive weekend. Advanced reading of the textbook prior to the course is recommended, as is a review of the specification linked to above.

Students who register with less than three weeks until the first class will have their study materials mailed within 3 business days of registration. Students who register on or after November 13 will need to come to the school to pick up their study materials by appointment if they wish to receive them ahead of the first class, or they may receive them the morning of the first class.
