Includes online study materials; sake tasting samples selected by Caroline Hermann, MW; online class session on Zoom; and the online, remotely invigilated examination
This half-day online course is the ideal starting point for the novice sake enthusiast, or those working with sake. No prior experience is required.
Students will pick up sake tasting samples from the Capital Wine School curbside by appointment on December 11 between 12pm – 5pm.
The course includes the processes and principles involved in the production, storage, and service of sake, as well as tasting, and remote-proctored exam (30 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes). Upon successful completion of the exam, students will be awarded the WSET Level 1 Award in Sake.
Schedule
Friday, December 11, 2020 – Wine sample pickups at the Capital Wine School between 12pm – 5pm
Saturday, December 12, 2020 – Level 1 Sake class Noon – 4pm
Noon-1pm: Sessions 1-4 (ingredients, production, categories, intro to tasting)
1-2pm: Sessions 5-6 (tasting, Japanese Kanji)
2-3pm: Sessions 7-9 (speciality sake, storage, service, food pairing)
3-3:30: break
3:30-4: exam review

Saturday, December 19 at 10:00am: Available to students who register before November 25
Saturday, January 2 at 10:00am: Available to students who register before December 4
Saturday, January 17 at 10:00am: Available to all registrants

EXAM INFORMATION (the exam takes 45 minutes to complete)
Due to covid-19, we are only able to offer an online/remote exam option for this course at this time.
Registrants should access the “RI-Candidate Information” document in the FAQ section of the website under “Can I Take My WSET Exam Online” to determine if this method of exam delivery is right for you.
Students who would prefer to wait to take a paper exam in person once conditions are safe to do so must email us at info@capitalwineschool.com after registering, or at least 17 business days prior to the scheduled exam – if we do not hear from you, you will be automatically enrolled in the online/remote exam option.
Classroom time + exam:
5 hours of “guided learning hours” (includes 45 min exam)
30 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes
70% to pass (no merit or distinction awarded)
