Who hasn’t been seduced by the romance of Barolo or Barbaresco? Unfortunately, these ethereal wines made with the Nebbiolo grape are usually a splurge and even so, should not be drunk too young. The aging - the waiting - is the hardest part. But in the meantime, Piedmont offers us some great wines to enjoy and savor as we test our patience. Characteristic local varietals like Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis and Gavi can be wonderful. Join me in exploring this region’s rich history, cuisine famous for white truffles and ancient winemaking traditions.
