Join us for a wine tasting and class on how war has affected the French wine industry and how the French wine industry has affected war.

Since the Romans warred with the Gauls, wine has been a vital part of the French economy, religion, and politics. Control of their famous wine production has been motivation for many wartime movements, and vineyards across France have been battlefields. Winemakers have been vital during wartime, often leading resistance movements, feeding and housing soldiers, or using their influence to sway enemy commanders. The destruction from major wars has also led to legislation and modernization of wine regions across France as grape growers and winemakers are forced to rebuild. Ultimately, a study on French wine would be incomplete without studying French wars, and a study on French wars would be incomplete without studying French wine.

Join us for a casual seated wine class where we will take a look at various wars on French land and how they intertwined with the French wine of that time while sipping six wines that are tied to war with our Wine Director, Erin Dudley, at Josephine!

Included with your ticket:

  • Seated wine class with certified sommelier and Neighborhood Restaurant Group Wine Director, Erin Dudley CSW
  • Tasting of six fine French wines
  • Small serving of artisanal cheese and accoutrements
