If you think tequila, beer or sangria are the only beverages to enjoy with Latin flavors, think again. Wines are also the perfect complement to a variety of Latin cuisines that range from pristine flavors of Peruvian ceviche cured in citrus to complex, multi-layered flavors of Spanish paella. On “Wine Down Wednesdays” these sister restaurants - VENTANAS, owned by Alexander Duran, and Son Cubano, co-owned by Alexander and his brother Edward - offer a special night to give wine a whirl with modern Latin dishes while saving! Each Wednesday the restaurants are holding an incredible 50 percent off night with an average of 20 varietals selected from their Wine Spectator Award winning wine lists.

Son Cubano’s menu is modern Latin cuisine, while the menu at VENTANAS is an eclectic mix of Latin-fusion, American and Asian dishes. Internationally awarded and celebrity chef David Burke is the culinary director for both restaurants with both offering ample outdoor dining, weather permitting.

VENTANAS, which opened in early Fall 2019, and Son Cubano now celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2021, feature deep, exciting wine lists with over 100 labels each from the World’s most prestigious wine regions! Both restaurants are fully dedicated to their wine programs by adhering to strict storage requirements, employing knowledgeable wine professionals and providing continual wine education for their guests, all of which are necessary to receive the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. Another element to the restaurants’ wine programs is to make wines fun and approachable for novices while also offering rare finds that will excite aficionados. Regardless of one’s level of wine knowledge, wine professionals are happy to help guests select wines suitable to their taste and budget.

Although the wines are subject to change, here’s a recent sampling of the “Wine Down Wednesday”” list. The wine prices listed below are at full price, so on Wednesdays they would be half of what is listed below:

Bubbles - Nicolas Feuillatte, Reserve Rose, France NV $96 and Schramsberg, Blanc de Blancs, CA 2017 $88. White Wines: Mannequin, Orin Swift, CA 2017 $88; Bourgogne, Albert Bichot, Vielles Vignes, France  2018 $58; Garganega, Pieropan, Soave DOC, Veneto, Italy 2018 $52, Torrentes, Kaiken Estate, Salta, Argentina 2017 $53. Rose: Chateau Gassier, Granache Blend, Provence, France 2019; Red Wines: Pinot Noir Colluvial, Sta, Rita Hills, CA $119; Bordeaux, Château La Pointe, Pomerol France 2014 $105, Burgandy, Château de la Chaize, Brouilly 2017 68; Brunello di Montalcino, Altesino, Italy 2018 $69; Torres Altos Ibericos, Reserve Rioja Spain 2012 $64.

“We feel so blessed to have made it this far and this successfully through the pandemic,” explained Alexander Duran. “My teams and I wanted to pass along some happiness in the form of fabulous wines from the World’s greatest wine regions along to our customers who supported us throughout this incredible time in our history. We will continue to offer an exciting wine program for Son Cubano and Ventanas including fun wine courses and decadent wine dinners.”
