Our Try Five For Free Wine Tasting is the best way to taste and learn about wine. And all you have to do is stop by!

We’re kind of digging this new tasting theme, or lack thereof. It’s true, this format gives us lots of flexibility to skip around to key wine zones of the globe and the so far, so good. As long as the wines flow and the order is correct, it’s a great way to compare and contrast different wines, different regions, and different viticultural zones. And did we mention it was free to sample 5 different wines? Taste, learn and save every Saturday at Table Wine.

Asheville’s Best Free Wine Tasting – Try Five Fantastic Wines For Free!

Just stop by — we’ve got plenty of free parking.

1. 2018 Broadbent Gruner Veltliner (Niederösterreich, Austria) – Gruner Veltliner is Austria’s most important grape and here’s a great introduction. Dry, crisp, fresh and aromatic, this liter-bottled version flows with notes of green apple, lemon, pear and flowers.

2. 2018 Grayson Cellars Chardonnay (Various Regions, California) – Always a candidate for California Chardonnay value of the year, the current release from Grayson is no exception. Ripe yet bright, this one offers up notes of spiced apple, apricot and pineapple with gentle hints of pie spice and vanilla on the finish.

3. 2017 Altano Tinto (Douro Valley, Portugal) – Here’s a stellar value from Portugal’s Douro Valley. Composed of several of the region’s most noted red grapes (Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Barroca), this full-bodied, silky red wine is rich with concentrated aromas and flavors of raspberry, dark cherry, boysenberry and chocolate. A ton of wine for the $$!

4. 2017 Borgo Moncalvo Barbera d’Asti Superiore (Piedmont, Italy) – Talk about a rocking red wine at a great price! Our friend and importer Jay Murrie of Piedmont Wine Imports turned us onto this one. From organic, hillside, high elevation vineyards planted back in the 1950’s, this old vine bottling shows great concentration, verve and complexity. And it’s well less than $20!

5. Surprise Wine – We’ll end with a wine by Paul Hobbs. That’s all I’m saying. Come early because we’re only opening 1 bottle of this one.
