The story of Turley Wine Cellars began in the 1970s, when Larry Turley came home late night from his shift in the ER to discover a tent in his driveway. After driving through the tent on his motorcycle, he met its tenant, John Williams, a winemaker at Spring Mountain. They became friends over several bottles of wine and founded Frog's Leap Winery in 1981.
Frog's Leap became an instant success.
Larry eventually realized that his passion was to craft gorgeous wines from gnarly old vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. He sold his half of Frog's Leap to John and started Turley Wine Cellars in 1993. Over the years, Turley Wine Cellars acquired dozens of vineyards, many of which no one wanted because of the poor shape they were in. Employing his skills of precision from the emergency room to tend the very old, fragile, and often decaying vines that required extra care and attention; Larry resurrected some of those vines—that dated back to the late 1800s—to make wines that catapulted Turley Wine Cellars to the top of the California Zinfandel world.
Today, Turley Wine Cellars produces very limited quantities of 50 different wines—from over 50 different vineyards, all of which are certified organic, or on their way to becoming certified. After 30 years of excellence, Turley remains one of the leading Zinfandel producers in California, and wine fans fervently await any and all Turley releases to this day!
Join us for a flight of five stellar Turley wines, presented by Whitney Turley who works alongside her father Larry, as Production Assistant.
