Chateau de Saint Cosme 2017 Condrieu

Northern Rhone Valley France

Wine Spectator 95 Rating

A bold style, with quince, lemon curd, creamed pear, apricot and white peach flavors lending range and weight. Verbena and warm brioche details infuse the lush finish. Very showy and pulls it off. Drink now through 2021.

Domaine Pegau 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Reservee Blanc

Southern Rhone Valley France

Wine Advocate 95 Rating

Pegau’s 2019 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvée Réservée is almost Burgundian in character, the way it balances upfront generosity with mouthwatering length. The flavors are different, offering hints of crushed stone, underripe pineapple, white peach and dried spices, then this medium to full-bodied wine adds vaguely chalky textural elements on the long finish. Silky and streamlined, it does a wonderful job of preserving freshness throughout.

Delas 2013 Domaine Des Grands Chemins Crozes Hermitage

Northern Rhone Valley France

Wine Advocate 92 Rating

Already gorgeous, the 2013 Crozes Hermitage Domaine des Grands Chemins comes all from the Les Chassis region of Crozes (this is the flatter plain that stretches west from the Rhône river); it was raised in a combination of stainless steel and smaller barrels. It offers classic violet-tinged black and blue fruits, tapenade, bay leaf and peppery notes in a medium to full-bodied, elegant, silky style that just begs to be drunk. While bottles wouldn’t last long at my house, it will cruise for another 10-15 years on its balance.

Christelle Betton 2016 Caprice Crozes Hermitage

Northern Rhone Valley France

Wine Advocate 92 Rating

The medium-bodied 2016 Crozes Hermitage Caprice comes from the oldest vines of this small domaine and is aged 10-12 months in older barrels. It shows lovely herbal-peppery complexities on the nose, then supple, creamy red fruit on the palate. Drinkable and complex, this wine is in tune with modern sensibilities but with genuine Syrah character and a long, silky finish.

Domaine Giraud 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Premices

Southern Rhone Valley France

Wine Advocate 93 Rating

From the estate’s younger vines in Chateauneuf du Pape (around 50 year-old vines) and a new cuvee, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Premices is a blend of 100% Grenache that’s aged one-third in 225-liter French oak barrels and the balance in concrete tank for one year. Gorgeous all around and made in a friendly, seamless style that’s hard to resist, it possesses a translucent ruby color that’s followed by a perfumed array of kirsch, raspberry, flowers, and red licorice. Incredibly pure and smooth, with no hard edges and a silk-like texture, it stays light and elegant on the palate and is a joy to drink. It should drink nicely for 5-8 years. Drink now-2019.

Domaine Pegau Reservee 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape

Southern Rhone Valley France

James Suckling 95 Rating

This youthful Chateauneuf has a very complex nose of graphite, raw meat and lilies. With aeration the black-cherry note steadily grows in intensity. Bold, leathery and earthy palate with fine tannins that build steadily on at the extremely long and straight mineral finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.
