The story of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir began at Rochioli, where Joe Rochioli Jr. was among the very first to plant Pinot Noir in the area. The family’s California legacy began in 1911 when his father, Joe Rochioli Sr., immigrated to America. Like many Italian immigrants, he eventually settled in Northern California. Joe Sr. became a ranch foreman in 1920, with aspirations of one day owning his own land. In 1934, after his wife Neoma gave birth to Joe Jr., they moved to and began farming a nearby 125-acre property called Fenton Acres.

The family's passion for fine wine and high-quality grape growing was ignited in 1968—two years after his father's death—when Joe Jr. began planting Pinot Noir clones from France. This was an interesting decision at the time, as there was little known about the grape in California, making him a true a pioneer of the varietal in the region. He had the foresight to know that the soil and microclimates of this unique spot in the Russian River Valley were special, and believed they could one day produce some of the world's greatest wines. After initial success with Pinot Noir, he also planted some Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

After nearly two decades of selling their Pinot Noir to Davis Bynum and Williams Selyem, among others, Tom, having graduated from college, returned to the family farm with an idea… He knew their grapes were excellent and were making great wines, and became convinced that they should make their own wine under the Rochioli name. After some deliberation, Joe Jr. finally agreed and in 1983 they changed the name of the property from Fenton Acres to Rochioli Vineyards. Tom took over as the business manager of the winery and soon after became the winemaker. In 1987 Rochioli released their first estate wine: the 1985 Rochioli Pinot Noir, which topped Wine Spectator’s list and was named ‘The Best Pinot Noir in America’. A family-owned winery, Tom is proud of Rochioli's considerable contributions to winegrowing in the region, and remains a stalwart producer of world-class Russian River Valley wines. Now, the fourth generation has joined the family winery. Tom’s daughter, Rachael, is currently the General Manager of the winery and Tom’s son, Ryan, is working as an assistant winemaker. Tom is looking forward to the future of Rochioli and having his children work alongside him.

Join us for this exciting opportunity to taste through five distinct bottlings, and experience for yourself why Rochioli has earned a reputation as one of California’s finest wine producers.
