This edition of our ongoing Portfolio Tasting series features wines brought to us by Lia Tolaini Banville through her Banville Wine Merchants import company. Lia started two companies in 2004 – Donna Laura wines to make really good Tuscan wine at really good prices from vines near her father’s Tolaini estate in Chianti. And Banville Wine Merchants to bring those wines to US consumers thirsty for deeply authentic and delicious wines offered at exceedingly fair prices.

We sell more bottles of Italian wine from Banville Wine Merchant than any other Italian importer (even though we work with lots of great ones!), meaning these are wines many of you love to buy and drink. The Donna Laura wines are always value favorites, Cantina Terlano our favorite Alto Adige estate, and Tolaini’s “entry level” Al Passo Cabernet blend…well, it’s the best-selling Italian wine label in the history of the shop.

Now Lia has been extending her reach by very selectively partnering with excellent French family winemakers in Champagne, the Southern and Northern Rhone and Burgundy. So right now is just about the most exciting time we can think of to check in on new releases from long-time favorites and get to know some exciting new arrivals.
