In preparation for our annual celebration and recognition of Pennsylvania wines, judging of the wines took place on Sunday, November 21st. We were led, as always, by Dr. Gary Pavlis from Rutgers University, who taught and guided some new judges, while reminding experienced ones of the finer points on how to go about it.
The PWS missed a year of judging and presenting wines due to COVID-19 restrictions and it had been since November 2019 that we met to judge Pennsylvania wines. COVID-19 also affected our entries this year, which were down in number from previous years. Apparently, the judging done for the Farm Show had the same experience! Although the number of entries was affected, we’re pleased to report the quality was definitely not.
We will be presenting the top scoring wines to attendees at our annual awards tasting on Sunday, May 1st at 2 p.m. at the Hilton Harrisburg. Those attending the event will taste all of the top wines, while the winery representatives tell us about their experiences in growing the grapes and making these top wines. This is the most interesting part of the event to many of the attendees as the dedication and commitment of those working in the wineries is clearly evident.
Finally, we will present our magnificent plaque shown below to the maker of the top-scoring wine and a recognition plaque to the runner-up wine. The remaining top 10 will be given recognition certificates as well.
Join us at the Hilton Harrisburg on Sunday, May 1st at 2:00 p.m. to recognize and celebrate the fine efforts of our Pennsylvania wineries.
