Local Event
Join us Thursday, March 23rd for a culinary voyage from Africa to Latin American with acclaimed chef Papa Assane Mbengue, featuring six courses paired with wine.
Chef Papa grew up in Senegal before migrating to Barcelona to begin his culinary career. There he began cooking Sengalese dishes to feel connected to home while learning the cuisine of Spain and Catalan. After falling in love with an American woman, Chef Papa moved to New Orleans, then Boston and Washington D.C. before settling in San Francisco. In each stop he cooked in renowned kitchens, preparing dishes from all over the world and for three U.S. Presidents. In the Bay Area, Chef Papa worked at Chez Panisse, Alice Waters’ groundbreaking farm to table restaurant, as well as at Bissap Baobob in Oakland and San Francisco. In 2021 he and his wife moved to Chapel Hill.
