Time for our annual ode to October! The first Oktoberfest was held in Munich in 1810. It commemorated the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. (Gesundheit!). Today, Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival held annually in Munich, and is an important part of Bavarian culture. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations, so we are happy to join in. This year it runs from September 21st to October 6th. We are just in time! But instead of toasting with beer, we will be sampling the stellar wines of the nearby regions – namely Alsace, Germany and Austria. Prost!
