Murphys Witch Walk-Eat, Drink And Be Wicked

Deemed one of the “8 California Small Towns to Visit Right Now,” by the San Francisco Chronicle, Murphys (located in Calaveras County), is an unrivaled and incomparable historic Gold Country town nestled in the Sierra Foothills a mere 2.5/3 hour drive from San Francisco, Oakland or San Jose and 1.5 hours from Sacramento.

Fun for the whole coven, be ready to eat, drink, shop, and enjoy Main Street Murphys, but be sure to dress to impress as your best Witch of Eastwick, Harry Potter character, Maleficent, sorcerers Saruman or Gandalf, Winifred, Sarah or Mary, the witches of MacBeth or the Good Witch of the North or the Wicked Witch of the East, or whatever other fascinating fantastical mystical character you can conjure, because this is a town-wide costume festival where all the World's a Stage and Everyone's a Star. And bring your diminutive witches, mini warlocks and assorted flying monkeys with you, because this is a family-friendly event.

And there are the 25 wine tasting rooms representing approximately 30 or so different local wineries. This is possibly the greatest concentration of wine tasting rooms in the smallest geographic footprint, all within walking distance of each other, in California, actually possibly west of the Mississippi.

In addition, Murphys’ Main Street, appropriately named, uh, well… “Main Street,” is a 1/2 mile long walkable stretch home to a bevy of things to do in Murphys, from incredible restaurants, drinking establishments, unique purveyors of fine retail goods from gifts, kitchen essentials, toys to fun, fashionable, kitschy, and backcountry camping and hiking clothing.
