We continue Friday’s focus on great values including two takes on Vinho Verde and the stunning value 2022 Patricia Green Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vyd. A snappy French rosé kicks things off and powerful Priorat from the hills inland of Barcelona bring things to a delicious close. Here’s what’s on tasting this Saturday from noon-4pm:
Laurent Miquel Cinsault Syrah Rose 2024 - Crisp, mouthwatering, Languedoc Cinsault for freshness and richer Syrah for structure and depth. Picking the grapes cold at night and pressing off after just a few hours of skin contact gives lovely color and a spicy tart cherry fruit with a dollop of crunchy watermelon on the juicy, dry, finish. Fun stuff.
Encostas do Lima Vinho Verde Schist 2021 – Deliciously dry Vinho Verde from a steeply sloped schist vineyard overlooking northern Portugal’s Lima River. Loads of passionfruit, lemon and orange blossom aromas and flavors and just a refreshing touch of CO2 for lift.
Encostas do Lima Vinho Verde Granite 2021 – Same grapes and place, but from a nearby vineyard laced with granite rock. This shows more green fruit- peach, lime, Granny Smith apple – and a bit more breadth to the long, dry, lightly spritzy finish.
Patricia Green Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vyd 2022 - Hard to find this much Pinot quality for under $30! As Vinous says, it's "vividly fruit-focused yet crisp in feel, with tactile minerals adding a crunchy sensation as tart red and blue fruits swirl throughout."
Merum Priorati Priorat Inici 2021 - A friendly take on Priorat in terms of structure - it's nicely open - and price - well under $40. A lovely combination of richness, power and purity here.
As always you can mix/match all five wines on tasting for best six and 12 bottle savings during the tasting. Take a break from your play and yard work and come get to know some new favorite spring/summer treats!
