Gary Pisoni is a free-spirited, Burgundy-loving wine enthusiast from a vegetable farming family in Salinas Valley. Today, he is considered a pioneer and one of the preeminent producers of Pinot Noir in the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation of Monterey County. After planting some of the region’s first acres of Pinot Noir vineyards on his family’s horse ranch in 1982 (nine years before it was designated an AVA), Gary went on to develop a cult-following for his cool-climate, meticulously farmed Pinot Noir. He is also well known for planting the 40-acre Garys’ Vineyard with childhood friend, Gary Franscioni which is arguably one of the finest sites in the appellation and whose grapes are sought after by some of the best producers in California. Pisoni Estate is revered for its outstanding Syrah and Chardonnay in addition to their coveted Pinot Noirs.

In 2000, Gary founded Lucia Vineyards, the sister label of the Pisoni Estate wines. Whereas Pisoni Estate is committed to a single expression of the Pisoni Vineyard; the Lucia wines are vineyard designated Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah sourced from the Pisoni Vineyards, Soberanes Vineyard and Garys’ Vineyard—in addition to eponymous Santa Lucia Highlands AVA cuvées with varying percentages of each vineyard blended together. Gary’s sons have championed this chapter of the family’s wine business, with Mark working as grower and Jeff as winemaker. The Lucia wines are made alongside the Pisoni Estate wines using the same exacting standards for quality, and are sold primarily via mailing list and high-end restaurants and retailers. 

In 2003, Lucy Wines was added to the Pisoni Family of wines, featuring wines from across the Monterey grape growing landscape; and conceived to showcase the growing history of the area along with a long and generous dedication to philanthropy including Breast Cancer, Ocean Conservancy and the important and noble Firefighters of Big Sur.
