When most of us think of French wine, we often think $$$$. As in, "Should I pay my mortgage, or should I buy this exquisite bottle of wine?" While French wine can certainly be splurgy, it can also be very affordable while still maintaining elegance, charm and plenty of character. And yes, affordable French wines can also occasionally be exquisite. The wines of Southern France are very affordable and can offer lots of bang for your buck--they're inexpensive enough for everyday sipping. They're also elegant and charming enough to impress your guests. Please join us on Saturday, November 2nd at 3 p.m. for our monthly wine tasting featuring six lovely wines from the South of France that pair with perfectly matched small plates.

I. Domaine de la Presidente Côtes du Rhône Blanc

This elegant white wine expresses floral and tropical notes on the nose that are just a warm-up for the rich, velvety textures and flavors that dance on the palate. Pineapple, papaya and mineral notes abound, balanced by a crisp acidity and soft honeysuckle overtones. This very pretty, medium-bodied wine is paired with a board of assorted French cheeses, both soft and hard, aged and young, and an array of the best accompaniments to compliment the cheeses.

II. Rasteau les Viguiers Côtes du Rhône Ortas

This pour has an intense ruby color, with aromas of cranberries and spice, which are echoed on the palate. Soft and smooth for easy drinking, this medium-bodied wine is paired with Meatloaf-Stuffed French Bread served with a Creamy Onion Gravy. Meatloaf Monday will never be the same again.

III. Chapoutier Belleruche Côtes du Rhône Rouge

Pure, bright aromas of red fruit waft up to you from the glass, with lovely raspberry flavors and a spicy licorice back note. Intense and medium-bodied, I've paired this very quaffable wine with a Whole Roasted Cauliflower with Whipped Goat Cheese. The notes in the lemony crushed fennel seasoning compliment the licorice notes in the wine.

IV. Mousset Sainte Cecile les Vignes Côtes du Rhône Villages

This classic GSM blend offers elegant aromas and tastes of red berries such as strawberries and raspberries. The texture is round and the finish reveals silky tannins and notes of blackcurrant. I've paired this rich and sophisticated wine with House-Made Merguez Sausage, served with Moroccan Lentil Risotto and Cucumber Lemon Yogurt.

V. DESSERT WINES

Terres de Muscat de St. Jean de Minervois

From Languedoc, this lively dessert wine is golden in color with green tints. A rich nose with complex and delicate aromas of fresh fruit, menthol, and thyme blossom. The palate is balanced, lively, fresh and rich. Notes of fresh figs on the finish.

and, just because we can...

Chateau Belingard Monbazillac

The decadent bouquet of fruit, flowers and spice are interwoven masterfully in this beautiful wine which is a Bordeaux blend. The finish seems to linger forever.

Both wines are offered with a moist, rich Pineapple Fruit Cake With Fig Filling and Buttery Cream Cheese Frosting, as well as a bottomless cup of Community Coffee or your own personal pot of hot tea.

We invite you to spend your afternoon with us and enjoy generous pours, great food pairings, and a one-of-a-kind experience at La Joie du Vin. Everything mentioned above is yours for $45 per person. Please invite your friends and family and join us for this very enjoyable and unique sit-down wine tasting. You can RSVP by purchasing tickets on Local Wine Events.
