Explore the French portfolio of Kermit Lynch, one of America’s most influential importers and author of the iconic wine memoir Adventures on the Wine Route. The tasting is absolutely free, but we ask that you RSVP so we have plenty of wine for everyone to try!

In 1972 with a $5,000 loan and 35 cases of stock, Kermit Lynch opened a wines tore in Berkeley, California. Struggling to find the kinds of distinctively authentic wines he wanted to sell, Kermit began traveling across France to find them - and then, out of necessity, launched an import business to bring them to the USA.

Since then he's won two James Beard awards, was knighted by France, published a definitive memoir and manifesto for authentic wine, Adventures on the Wine Route, and (with his son Anthony) kept on finding and importing a bevy of deliciously distinctive bottles. And we're going to open 15 of those bottles this Sunday so you can get to know Kermit's work and appreciate why this legendary importer remains one of America's most relevant and important nearly 50 years after he began.

We'll be joined representatives from Robins Cellars, our partner and Kermit's Virginia distributor. While Kermit's portfolio has expanded at least a touch beyond, we're going to focus selections from France, where he got his start. In all, 15 wines will be open to try on three tables.

Sparkling and Pink

  • Lambert de Seyssel Brut Petit Royal NV (60% Molette, 40% Altesse from Savoie)
  • Dom Fontsainte Corbieres Rose Gris de Gris 2021 (long-time favorite for summer sipping)
  • Dom Reuilly Pinot Gris 2021 (skin-contact Pinot Gris with a touch of pale pink goodness)

Whites of Style and Distinctions

  • Meyer Fonne Edelzwicker 2020 (what they drink in Alsace for fun - a kitchen sink of delight)
  • A et M Quenard Savoie Blanc "Les Abymes" 2020 (one of our favorite Savoie estates)
  • Dom La Roquete Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Piedlong 2019 (stunning white CdP from the Brunier family of Vieux Telegraphe)
  • Domaine du Salvard Sauvignon Blanc "Unique" 2021 (snappy, fresh, Sauvignon from a top Cheverny estate)
  • Chateau Graville Lacoste Graves Blanc 2020 (stylish white Bordeaux that reminds you why "Graves" is such a classic seafood selection)

Reds from Light to Bold and Deep

  • Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais Rouge 2020 (Gamay with juicy fruit and floral complexity)
  • Dom Maestracci Clos Reginu Rouge 2020 (from Corsica, one of our favorite summer reds)
  • Chanteleuserie Bourgeuil Alouettes 2020 (a darker, spicier, take on Loire Valley Cabernet Franc)
  • Domaine de Durban VdP Vaucluse Rouge 2020 (as always, a juicy fun cookout red)
  • Terres d'Avignon Cotes du Rhone 2020 (Kermit's own CdR cuvee that's naturally delicious)
  • Domaine de Terrebrune Terre d'Ombre Rouge 2020 (bold "baby Bandol" loaded with earthy character)
  • Ermitage Pic Saint Loup Tour de Pierres Rouge 2020 (a favorite Languedoc red shines even more brightly in 2020)

We've negotiated some great special pricing for this very grand Kermit Lynch Portfolio Tasting, so all will be especially attractive to take home and drink and table and share with family and friends.

The tasting on Sunday, June 19, from 1-4 pm is absolutely free, but we ask that you RSVP so we know how much wine to have on hand and how many nibbles to set out. You can RSVP to wineteam@cbcwine.com, call us at 703.356.6500 or simply stop by the store.
