My favorite of this estate’s three red cuvées was the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Privilege, a barrel-aged blend (30% new) that includes 5% or so white grapes and a wide swathe of red varieties. The cedar and vanilla notes are pronounced but not overwhelming, serving to highlight gorgeous cherry fruit. It’s full-bodied, plush and unabashedly modern but also luminous and silky, with a long, long finish.

This highly anticipated release doesn’t disappoint! Pronounced aromas of ripe black fruit and blueberries, backed by spice, mocha, fig and balsamic notes. The palate is generous with complex bramble and plum fruit characters, well-integrated oak and bright acidity. Structured yet elegant.

A terrific Napa Cabernet, dry and smooth and tremendously layered in flavors. Blackberries, blueberries, currants, crême de cassis, anise, dark chocolate and cedar flood the palate and are just delicious. Best of all is the structure, so rich in firm tannins and acidity. Wonderful now, and should develop for at least a decade.

It didn’t take long for Nicolas Audebert to make an impact at Rauzan-Ségla. According the Audebert, the big challenge in 2015 was maintaining freshness while respecting the classic style but also capturing the personality of the ripe year. It certainly looks like he succeeded. He is young, has worked in a number of regions around the world and brings tremendous passion to his work. You know what? It shows. Rauzan-Ségla’s second wine, the 2015 Ségla, is made from a collection of satellite parcels to the main estate, along with various young-vine plots. A very pretty second wine with lovely aromatic complexity and depth. Succulent and racy, the 2015 expresses the radiant personality of the vintage nicely. Savory herb and floral touches add aromatic nuances throughout. This is a classy Margaux to add to many others. Drink 2020-2030.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Bravo! As this wine ages in your cellar the score will surely go up based on the price today. Fortunately, you can pop & pour this incredibly, outstanding Napa gem now. The color is deep purple just like you’d expect from this Paulliac like wine. The bouquet of creme de cassis, black-fruits and liquid violet give this wine the textbook nose you’d pick out blind for a great Napa red. The purity of fruit drives the rich, deep, full-bodied, seductiveness right into the sweet tannins. Classic stuff.
