Another heavenly wine is the 2018 Cabernet Franc Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, which may be my favorite in the lineup. Sporting a deep purple color as well as a gorgeous perfume of crème de cassis, graphite, spring flower, crème brulée, and tobacco, it just glides across the palate with full-bodied richness, beautiful tannins, no hard edges, and that rare mix of elegance and power that only truly great wines possess. It’s gorgeous today yet I see no reason it won’t keep for at least 15-20 years.

Loads of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, gravelly earth, espresso, and chocolate notes emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard, a Graves-look alike that offers full-bodied richness, ripe, polished tannins, a dense, rich mid-palate, and a blockbuster of a finish. Reminding me of a great vintage from Smith Haut Lafitte, it can be drunk today or cellared for 20 years or more.

A textbook expression of this site, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard boasts a deep purple/plum color to go with a darker, earthy bouquet of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, chocolate, and graphite. This carries to a full-bodied, deep, powerful wine that packs serious richness and depth while staying light and graceful, with a beautiful sense of elegance and purity. It’s a magical Cabernet from this vineyard that’s going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for 25+ years or more. Hats off to winemaker Julien Fayard!

Another brilliant wine in the lineup, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard comes from one of the Grand Cru vineyards in the Valley and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its dense purple color is followed by classic, blockbuster To Kalon notes of blueberries, cassis, raspberries, flowery incense, unsmoked tobacco, and violets. This powerhouse of a Cabernet is full-bodied, has loads of ripe tannins, a layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. This vineyard performed exceptionally well in 2018, and this is a gorgeous, textbook expression of this terroir to enjoy over the coming two decades.
