Who is the Introductory Sommelier Course and Examination for?

This course and examination is for anyone who would like to learn more about wine and the sommelier profession.

What to Expect

In this two-day course, students will study the major wine regions and beverages of the world, gain experience tasting, describing, and evaluating wine, and learn about hospitality and proper wine service standards. The course culimates in a written, 70 question multiple-choice examination. All courses are taught exclusively by Master Sommeliers.

Who is the Certified Sommelier Examination for and What to Expect?

The examination is for students who have passed the Introductory Sommelier Exam. The Certified Exam is a one-day exam with three segments: Theory, Tasting, and Service. The written theory examination will cover fundamental questions about the world of wine, spirits, beer and service. The blind tasting examination utilizes the CMS Deductive Tasting Method where candidates must describe and identify four wines and the practical service examination approximates a real restaurant environment, and candidates are expected to demonstrate salesmanship and knowledge while performing a variety of table-side tasks.
