We like to think all of the wine dinners we do with Chef Jacques at La Cote d’Or are great value. But Chef clearly has a serious case of late spring fever. Because he’s created a stunning six-course menu matched with six Loire Valley wines from Wine Traditions and priced it at just $125 per person including tax and tip! (Eventbrite fees extra). So plan now to join Chef Jacques, importer Ed Addiss and us as we take a delicious tour of the “Garden of France” on Wednesday and Thursday, May 28 and 29.

The wines are delicious, representative, and come from Loire Valley regions famous (Vouvray, Saumur, Muscadet) and decidedly less well known (Cotes du Forez, Saint-Pourcain, Bourgueil). And the menu digs into classic dishes of the Loire Valley with a touch of Chef Jacques’s magic so that each pairs perfectly with the wines. The menu:

Vol au vent filled with mushroom and goat cheese

Grosbot-Barbara Methode Traditionelle Brut 0 2023

Oyster, salmon Gravlax, granny smith apple, mustard cream sauce,

crispy baguette

Delaunay Vignerons Muscadet Chateau Thebaud 2015

P.E.I mussels, saffron white wine broth, potato gnocchi, zucchini, chive

Dom du Pas St. Martin Saumur Blanc Jurassique 2022

Pork shoulder braised 6 hours, cabbage vinegar confit, Mâche salad, crispy potato

Verdier-Logel Cotes du Forez Poycelan 2023

Coated black peppercorn, grilled Bavette beef steak,

Pomme Pont neuf, tomato red wine sauce, summer savory, wilted spinach

Dom du Changeon Bourgueil Les Passagers 2020

Kumquat and apple Tatin, crème fraiche, honey pineapple sorbet

Christophe Thorigny Vouvray Cuvee Prestige 2014

Ok, so kumquats don’t grow in the Loire Valley and potato gnocchi feels a little Italian (although they’re often served in Nice!). But I ate the mussel dish with Jaques while preparing the menu and, trust me – one taste and you won’t care where it’s from!

We like to have fun at these dinners with Ed sharing the stories of each wine and Jacques explaining how I was wrong to suggest that Muscadet wouldn’t match Gravlax. And you enjoying great company, food and wine. All at an absurdly low $125 per person price.
