James Ward Band
The JWB’ was formed in the 18th and Vine District of Kansas City. James, a native of Kansas
City, attended Florida A&M University, where he studied Tuba, and played acoustic and electric
bass. James’ experience, skill, and reputation has led him to perform throughout the United
States and on a tour of South Africa with vocalist Oleta Adams. This is a contemporary jazz band,
whose show consists of Latin, R&B, fusion, funk, jazz, and gospel music. Their debut album In
Perspective, hit the Smooth Jazz Indie Charts at #42, made the top 20. The
recording stayed there for a number of weeks. That album, followed by Groove
Axis released in 2010. This is a family band, with James’ wife Angela at
the keyboards. She is a composer and record producer, who brings a blend of
fusion jazz, and classical music to everything she plays. Angela began playing
piano at three-years-old. The musical couple’s son Jaylen, has become the
drummer of the band. Not to be outdone by his mom, he began playing drums at
two! Jaylen will attend KCKCC in the fall. Guitarist, Terry Swope who has been
featured at Holy-Field with KC Aces for the past several years, will be on-hand to sing and play
guitar. We are excited to bring The JWB to the Vineyard for a groovin’ night of music.
