OUR SPEAKER:
Our friend Janine Firpo is co-founder of Invest-For-Better and the recent author of Activate Your Money. A writer, angel investor, impact investor, and social entrepreneur, for almost 20 years Janine has been on a personal mission to invest all of her money in alignment with her values and to help others to do the same.
Most of us are aware of the incredibly significant political consequences of the coming election cycle, but few of us are aware of the financial implications of our current political divisions. Affirmative action has been repealed and there's an attack on funds that were designed to serve minority Americans and move capital to previously ignored entrepreneurs. There are coordinated assaults on ESG investment strategies and impact investing, trying to steer capital away from sustainability and to diminish the power of shareholder choice. Many of these attacks are being underwritten by the oil and gas industries which see the shift in energy investments as an existential threat to their businesses.
How are progressive investors fighting back? What are the biggest groups focused on reversing climate change, clean and renewable energy and addressing wealth inequality? Are we facing structural reforms that limit our choices on how we can invest our money for both financial returns and social impact?
Tonight we'll discuss the intersection of policy, politics and capital flows and how these shape our options when it comes to investing our money.
OUR CHEF:
Chef Anthony Giacobbe has been cooking Californian Farm to Table Cuisine for over 20 years. He got his start working directly with farmers and produced grown at Esalen, California's legendary retreat center in Big Sur.
Chef Anthony's cooking is a celebration of freshness, seasonality, and cultural fusion. His commitment to farm-to-table dining and his love for Asian cuisine continue to redefine the culinary landscape, offering a unique and delicious experience that stays true to the roots of California's rich agricultural heritage. Anthony has also spent a year traveling Latin America and has a great respect for all things taco.
