Please join us Wednesday, July 28th any time between 4:00-7:00 pm, as we welcome Cat Fairchild, National Sales Manager of Failla Wines, to our wine bar. Cat will present a flight of single vineyard Failla releases including the Keefer Ranch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Failla was founded in 1998 by husband and wife, Ehren Jordan and Anne-Marie Failla. Ehren is proud to say that he does not have any formal training or education in fermentation science, just an intense enthusiasm and passion for wine. He was also very fortunate to meet some key people in the wine industry when he first arrived in California after his time ski bumming and "somming" in Aspen, Colorado.
He started at Joseph Phelps in Napa Valley as a tour guide and three years later was working in the cellar and going on national sales calls with then VP, Bruce Neyers. He left Phelps and went to the Rhône Valley where he worked with Jean-Luc Colombo (whom he had met through Bruce) in Cornas, learning everything he could from the Rhône master. He had also met Helen Turley and her husband, Jon Wetlaufer, who hired him to work at Marcassin, their estate vineyards in Sonoma Coast. And of course, through Helen, Ehren met her brother, Larry Turley, owner of Turley Wine Cellars, where he became Helen's assistant winemaker. He eventually took over as full-time winemaker for Turley in 1996, crafting all those famous Turley Zinfandels for about 16 years when he finally had to relinquish his duties there to focus solely on Failla.
Today, Ehren makes over a dozen wines from his 14-acre estate vineyard in the Fort Ross area of Sonoma Coast, as well as six other vineyards in Russian River Valley, Edna Valley, Napa Valley, Oregon and other parts of Sonoma County.
The featured flight wines will be served as two-ounce pours and 5-ounce glasses; and will include the following wines:
