Alexander van Beek, General Director

Sigel’s Elite (3209 N Fitzhugh) Tuesday Oct 17th    4:30-6pm

These two classic estates in Tuscany and Bordeaux share many attributes including a commitment to organic viticulture and a commitment to excellence in winemaking. Both estates are also owned by the Albada family and both are managed by Alexander van Beek. Join us at Sigel’s Elite (3209 N Fitzhugh, 75204) from 4:30-6pm on Tuesday, October 17th as we welcome Alexander to lead a tasting of their current releases.

Wines to be tasted:

Ch Giscours Sirene de Giscours 16 (92js)

Ch Giscours 2020 (95+rp)

Caiarossa Toscana Bianco 19 (94js)

Cairossa Toscana Pergolaia 18 (91-93rp)

Caiarossa Toscana Caiarossa 18 (95rp)

Caiarossa Toscana Bianco 19 (94js)

“A beautiful, medium-bodied white from viognier and chardonnay that shows creaminess and freshness. Chalky with dried fruit, such as lemons and apples. Stoney finish. Really delicious and characterful. The viognier comes through nicely. Some used barrels used. From organically grown grapes.” 94js

Cairossa Toscana Pergolaia 18 (91-93rp)

“The Caiarossa 2018 Pergolaia is mostly Sangiovese with smaller parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This wine opens to a mid-weight approach and a bright bouquet colored by notes of cherry, wild plum, tilled earth and pressed violet or blue flower. The wine wraps over the palate with delicate, silky intensity.” 91-93rp

Caiarossa Toscana 18 (95rp)

“The Caiarossa 2018 Caiarossa offers great insight into the forward-looking trajectory and the solid quality record of this gem of an estate on the Tuscan Coast. This is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante, with the saturated and dark fruit aromas of the Cabernet grapes in pole position. A deep core of black fruit is backed by exotic spice, tar and sweet licorice at the back. The finest work here is to the tannins, which remain very smooth and taut, giving the wine an elegant but determined backbone.” 95rp

Ch Giscours Sirene de Giscours 16 (92js)

“A fresh and linear red with crushed stones, menthol and dark berries and plums. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a linear finish. Second wine of Giscours. Drink in 2023.” 92js

Ch Giscours 2020 (95+rp)

”This estate is now enjoying its finest run since its glory days in the 1970s, and the 2020 Giscours is excellent. Unwinding in the glass with deep aromas of blackberries, cassis, pencil shavings, rose petals and sweet, loamy soil, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a layered and seamless mid-palate, excellent concentration and powdery structuring tannins.” 95+rp
