One more sign of post-pandemic normalcy returning: cassoulet feasts with Chef Jacques Imperato at At La Cote d'Or Restaurant! We’ve got two nights to choose from – February 28 and March 1 – and a menu that teases springtime before and after a hearty winter cassoulet. Add in five wines from importers Ed and Barbara Addiss at Falls Church-based Wine Traditions and you’ve got all the ingredients to chase away winter blues and get ready for sunnier days to come! All for just $98 per person including tax/tip!

It's great to be bringing back this annual winter tradition, an evening of good company, great food and delicious wines shared at the classic French bistro, La Cote d’Or in Falls Church. If you haven’t been to see Chef Jacques recently, you really should! The restaurant gleams with a pandemic-time renovation, and the food and warm service are better than ever. Especially when cassoulet is on the menu.

What is cassoulet? It's a rich, deeply flavored, casserole of meats like garlicky sausage, duck confit, pork and more buried in creamy white beans. While found all over southern France, its most famous home is in Toulouse where the deep, round, earthenware pot with slanting sides called a "cassoulet" gave its name to the dish.

Responding to a lovely set of wines proposed by Wine Traditions, Chef Jacques has created a lovely menu that starts and ends with the flavors of spring to perfectly complement the hearty cassoulet at the core of the evening. The menu and wines:

  • Crispy baby watercress lasagna, peach, goat cheese - Dom Les Genets Clairette de Die Brut NV
  • Scallops terrine Harlequin, pea, beans, carrot, white parsnip, pear, cold cheese crème fraiche, chive - Les 13 Lunes Rousette De Savoie Une Hirondelle 2021
  • Jacques’ Cassoulet - Dom Serre Besson Vinsobres Rouge 2019 and Ch Villars Fronsac 2011
  • Jacques’ lemon Minerve, Citrus custard cream, red berry drops - Dom Les Genets Clairette de Die Tradition Methode Ancestrale NV

The cost of the dinner on Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday, March 1, is just $98 per person inclusive of taxes and tip. And, there’s no extra charge for a container to use carrying home your leftovers (and, yes, there will be leftovers!). La Cote d’Or Restaurant is located at 6876 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA 22213, just off Rt. 66 and within walking distance of the East Falls Church Metro station. Parking is available next to the restaurant and along Westmoreland Street.

To attend, all you have to do is reserve your seats through the store. Just email us, call us at 703.356.6500 or stop by the store – like during this weekend’s free tastings! But don’t delay – these dinners will be very popular and are sure to sell out!
