Dodgy, shonky, deceitful, or downright fraud, it’s a problem and not just for the multi-millionaire’s DRC, Ch. Pétrus or Sassicaia…I know of modest wines in the $15 to $50 range where bad actors passed off fraudulent wine as authentic exemplars.
This night is a primer discussion & tasting on fraudulent wine, its impact on the consumer, what are the basics on how to identify matters of concern and more importantly how to approach a vendor with questions that you may have on the authenticity of certain wine prior to making a purchase.
This is a good primer for the curious tradesperson, existing/emerging collector, and investor in alternative assets (ie: wine) or just the curious public.
It can be a rather complicated discussion so we’ll explore the topic carefully, and over several tranches depending on interest. Expect this inaugural event to sell out early.
I’ll present known, physical examples of fraudulent wine from my library-of-shame for your own examination.
UNIQUE TO THIS EVENT: we’ll have an authentic example of a wine and its ($3500) deceitful doppelgänger to compare & contrast by tasting both side-by-side.
